There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities on top of the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
