There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features a number of comforts on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
