There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that highlights numerous conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight table games.
